Gay Men's Group
Drawing on the power of the immediate “here and now” group experience, members confront such issues around improving one’s self-concept, blending sex and intimacy, building a supportive community and the impact of homophobia on their emotional availability to themselves and others. Members also learn how to express themselves authentically, and to listen more thoughtfully.
Research has shown (Lorentzen, S, Bogwald K, Hoglend P., 2002) that group therapy can be very helpful in making important healthy changes in a person’ life. Anecdotally, many group members have stated that group work has helped them understand themselves better, relate to others more effectively and feel more competent in their lives.
This group can be very helpful for you if you are looking for support with any of the following:
- Working through internalized homophobia
- Developing intimacy skills
- Feeling more connected to others and less isolated
- Improving relationships with partner and/or family/friends
- Negotiating sexual contact
- Improving self-concept and confidence
- Sorting out feelings around marginalization and discrimination
- Learning better communication skills
